Promise of Good Health

G-d delivered the Israelites from the bondage of Egypt and they were thirsty from their travels. They had come across contaminated water and G-d purified the water. He said:

…”If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”

— Exodus 15:26 NKJV

This is an awesome promise from the L-RD. He is speaking to the Israelites, but it is very possible that this can pertain to us as well.

He says “If you diligently heed the voice of the L-RD your G-d…”

Are we diligently heeding the voice of the L-RD?

If we take the Latin origin “apart to select” and add that to the definition we will get an explanation of the word

to set something apart from the rest and steadily pursue it, with constant and fervent energetic effort, always being attentive to the goal in mind.

heed: verb:

  1. 1. to give careful attention to
Origin: German: to guard, protect, in the sense of a covering of the head.

Do we set apart our focus, with tenacious effort, towards covering/protecting our heads with the voice of the L-RD our G-d? Are we putting forth that same effort to do what is right in His sight, willingly and actively listening to His commandments with obedience, and constantly holding to His statutes?

According to this verse, if His people are doing the above mentioned, they will not have any of the diseases that were brought upon the Egyptians.

Are we His people? In John 10, Jesus talks about His sheep.

v.4 “And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”

v.8 “All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.”

v.16 “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”

v.27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Are we His sheep? Do we hear His voice? Are we seeking Him out? If so, He has brought us into the fold and we have a promise of eternal life, as well as a life more spiritually abundant while we remain here on this Earth. In verse 10 of the same chapter, Jesus said that He has come that His sheep may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

This is what it means to be a follower of Jesus, a child of G-d.

Diligently seek Him out with every fiber of your being and see what G-d has in store for your life. It is far greater than you could ever imagine.
